Illuminations Concerts Features Two World Premier Songs

VENI,VENI is a fantasy on two verses of the medieval Advent hymn “Veni, Veni Emmanuel.” The piece invokes the light by which we recognize the divinity in all things and the wisdom to live according to the knowledge of that divinity. The soloist’s closing phrase “the light in me greets the light in you” (translated from the Indian greeting Namaste) is for the composer, J. David Moore, the fulfillment of the desire infusing the verses.

I LOOK TO THE EAST, by Elizabeth Reno of Kenedy, Texas, is the winner of the 2010 TCWC Emerging Female Composer Choral Competition. This piece opens with a strong statement of looking to the east where the sun rises, offering a ray of hope, illumination, and courage. Having come through a time of doubt and struggle, the ending builds to a resounding finish that brings forth the enlightenment of insight and courage.
